The Apsley Group of Fire Brigades has received a new Forward Command Vehicle that has been operational since October 2009.
The new Forward Command Vehicle has been purchased after the generosity of the Horsham Sports and Community club donating $20,000 towards the purchase of this vehicle. The Apsley Group of Fire Brigades were also successful in gaining a grant though the Community Safety Emergency Support Program (CSESP). CSESP is a program established under the Victorian Government Community Support Fund. The program provides funding to support CFA, SES, Life Saving Victoria and Volunteer Coast Guard and other eligible emergency service volunteer organisations.
CSESP has been running since August 2000 with five programs successfully completed.
The new Forward Command Vehicle will assist greatly during operations. The vehicle gives the flexibility to use multiple radio frequencies to communicate with fire ground and command personnel. The Vehicle will also be fitted with a GPS for more accurate location of fires and incidents.
In the past brigade members and Group Officer's had to use their own vehicles in incidents, which were not necessarily appropriate for the job. This new vehicle is a 4wd, all terrain vehicles that will allow the group greater access.
The vehicle will also be made available to its members for travelling into Horsham and around Region 17 on CFA business for meetings, training and the like.
Group officer Gary Smith said "members of the Aspley Group of Fire Brigades were over the moon when news came through that the Horsham Sports & Community Club had allocated $20,000 towards the purchase of the vehicle. Without their generous support this opportunity would have been missed and with the forecast for a long, hot, dry summer we will be better prepared to deal with any fires within the region."
